About MetalAlert
MetalAlert is a commodity intelligence platform for the strategic purchaser: forward-looking probabilities for every LME base metal, so buying decisions rest on a number instead of a guess.
Where we come from
MetalAlert comes out of more than 11 years of building forecasting models for Fortune 500 companies. We have since narrowed to one problem: helping the people who buy metal decide when to buy.
We chose metals because the purchasing decision there is concrete. A buyer has a volume to cover, a contract to renew and a price that may move before they act. For that decision, the odds of a move of a given size, with an alert when they cross a level you choose, are more useful than a single forecast number.
What we do
For copper, aluminium, nickel, zinc, tin and lead, MetalAlert estimates the chance that the average price over the next one or three months runs at least 2%, 5% or 10% above or below this month's average. You can set an alert for when a probability reaches a level you choose, and use the odds to time forward buys, contract renewals and hedges.
Who it is for
Procurement, sourcing, supply-chain and treasury teams who buy metal or metal-based products and carry the cost when the price moves. It is decision support alongside your own judgement, not a replacement for it.
What we believe
- A probability beats a point forecast. Nobody can name next month's exact price, but how likely a move of a given size is can be estimated and tested.
- Calibrated, not just confident. A “30%” should happen about 30% of the time, and we check that against history the models never saw.
- Honest about limits. Where the history is too thin we show “insufficient history” instead of a number that only looks precise, and we publish what did not work as well as what did.
The full story of how the numbers are built and tested is on the Methodology page, and you can see them applied to each metal on the price forecast pages.
The company
MetalAlert is built and operated by Alert Technologies AB, a Swedish limited company. Our terms, privacy policy and disclosures are in the footer of every page.
