Draft for legal review: not yet in force. This document is a starting template. Every item in [square brackets] must be completed, including naming the actual consent management tool once chosen and confirming the exact tags configured in Google Tag Manager, and the whole document must be reviewed by qualified counsel in each jurisdiction where MetalAlert is offered before it is published or relied on. Nothing here is legal advice.
Cookie Policy
Last updated: [DATE] · Draft v0.1
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how metalalert.ai and the MetalAlert application use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which covers personal information more broadly. If anything here conflicts with the Privacy Policy, the Privacy Policy prevails on questions of personal information, and this policy prevails on questions specific to cookies.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device to remember information between visits or pages. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage (which work like cookies but are stored differently by your browser) and tracking pixels (tiny, usually invisible images that signal when a page or email has loaded). We use the word "cookies" below to cover all of these unless we say otherwise.
3. The categories we use
- Strictly necessary. Required for the site or application to function, such as keeping you signed in. These cannot be switched off in our systems, though you can block them in your own browser, which may break parts of the Service.
- Functional. Remember choices you've made (for example, that you've already started a conversation in the chat widget) to make the site more convenient. The site works without these, just less smoothly.
- Analytics. Help us understand how the site is used in aggregate, such as which pages are visited, so we can improve it. [Confirm whether a Google Analytics (or equivalent) tag is actually configured inside the Google Tag Manager container referenced below, and update this section and the table in section 4 to match exactly what is live.]
We do not currently use advertising or cross-site retargeting cookies. If that changes, we will add an "Advertising" category here, describe it, and ensure the consent tool in section 5 is configured to block those cookies until you consent, as required by law.
4. Cookies and similar technologies in detail
The table below lists what actually sets cookies or similar technologies on our site today. [Keep this table in sync with the live Google Tag Manager container (GTM-N2NLS6ZW) and the consent tool's own cookie scan; a consent-management tool typically generates and maintains a table like this automatically.]
| Name / provider | Category | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Google Tag Manager | Delivery mechanism | Loads the other tags on this page (for example analytics, if configured). Google Tag Manager itself does not set cookies; the tags it loads might. [Confirm and list each tag actually published in the container.] |
| Tawk.to (chat widget) | Functional | Remembers your chat session and conversation history with our support widget, including a visitor identifier, so a conversation can continue across page loads. Set by embed.tawk.to and va.tawk.to. |
| metalalert_auth (application only, app.metalalert.ai) | Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in to the MetalAlert application. An httpOnly session cookie; not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Not set on this marketing site. |
| Google Fonts | Not a cookie, but an external request | Loading our web fonts causes your browser to request them from Google's servers, which involves your IP address. [Confirm whether to self-host fonts instead to avoid this request entirely.] |
5. How we obtain your consent
[Describe the actual consent banner once implemented: for example, "On your first visit, a banner lets you accept all, reject all, or choose by category. Strictly necessary cookies load regardless, since the site cannot function without them. Non-essential cookies, including analytics, only load after you consent." Name the consent management tool actually in use here (for example CookieYes or Osano) and confirm it is configured in Google Consent Mode v2 so that Google tags themselves respect your choice.]
6. How to manage or withdraw consent
[Once a consent tool is live, add how to reopen its preference panel, typically a "Cookie settings" link in the footer or a small persistent icon.] You can also control or delete cookies directly in your browser's settings; every browser is different, so check your browser's own help pages for instructions. Blocking all cookies will affect how parts of the site and application work.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the cookies and tags we use change. The "last updated" date above shows the current version.
